Thank You, President Obama – I have a job because of you

October 31, 2010 Leave a comment

I have a job writing and advocating for solar electricity because of stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

I choose to get up every morning with the sunrise and use my talents on behalf of Electricity from the Sun, because I believe that building up a renewable energy infrastructure in America is good for our wallets, our national security, our energy independence, our environment and our economy. The Clean Energy sector in California is providing 10 times the number of jobs compared to any other sector, according to the state’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I have a job right now, after being unemployed for almost two years. And I made it through the tough times because of my Unemployment Benefits. Thank you, President Obama for extending Unemployment Benefits, and thank you President Roosevelt for starting Unemployment Benefits after the Republicans of the 1920s caused the Great Depression of the 1930s.

A week after President Obama took his oath of office I lost my previous solar job. Every single business in America, and around the world, was negatively affected by the Great Recession, caused by George W. Bush and the Republican-led Congress of the 2000s.

* Reminder: George W. Bush is President from January 2001 to January 2009, the Republicans have a stranglehold majority on both houses of Congress from 2001-2006, the hey day of Subprime-mortgage-backed securities is 2004-2007, Wall Street gets bailed out with $700 billion of taxpayers’ money in September 2008.

What happened with Republicans in control of our country’s government in the 2000s? A whole lotta not good.

President Obama deserves a “Thank You” from all of us. He turned our country around. Our economy is growing again! We are officially out of the Great Recession, by economists’ standards.

Obama also gave 95% of Americans a tax cut. Yes, the Middle Class got a tax cut, meaning anyone making less than $200,000 per year for individuals, or under $250,000 per year for couples, pays less in taxes because of President Obama. The Bush Tax Cuts mainly benefited the superwealthy. Now tax brackets over $250,000 per family get readjusted to Clinton-era tax levels. See, the Bush Tax Cuts were a bad idea in the first place: $1 Trillion of lost revenue.

Even though we are officially out of the Great Recession, we need to pad our national balance sheet. And right now, the Middle Class needs more help than the superwealthy. This nation rises or falls together. Time for the rich to stop bitchin’ and just pitch in.

If you’re a rich, greedy bastard I can rationally see how you could vote Republican.

But for anyone else, if you vote Republican you must enjoy being eaten for breakfast.

Understand the Trillions of dollars that were just stolen from the American People during the Bush administration, with the complicity of a Republican-majority Congress.

If you have any sense at all, you will Vote YES on Democrats across the board on Tuesday, November 2, 2010…because Democrats do the heavy lifting to clean up the messes left behind by George W. Bush and the Republicans of the 2000s.

President Barack Obama is good for America

EXCERPT:
“The economic crisis has also distracted from authentic accomplishments. Presidents since Harry Truman have been pushing for health care reform, and it was Mr. Obama who finally achieved it. The economy seemed at risk of another Great Depression when he took office, and that was downgraded to a recession from which we have officially emerged — even though the pain is still biting.

Mr. Obama has also helped engineer a successful auto bailout, a big push for clean energy, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to reduce sex discrimination, tighter tobacco regulations aimed at the 1,000 Americans under age 18 who become smokers each day, and tighter financial regulation including reform of credit card rules.

Above all, Mr. Obama has been stellar in one area crucial to our country’s future: education. Democrats historically have been AWOL on school reform because they are beholden to teacher unions, but Mr. Obama has reframed the debate and made it safe to talk about teaching standards and “bad teachers.” Until Mr. Obama, Democrats barely acknowledged that it was possible for a teacher to be bad.

Mr. Obama used stimulus money to keep teachers from being laid off and to nudge states to reform education so as to benefit children for years to come. His ‘Race to the Top’ focused states on education reform as never before.

He has also revamped and expanded student loans and bolstered support for community colleges, opening a new path to higher education for working-class Americans. Millions more Americans may end up in college.”

Republicans Lie, Cheat and Steal

October 30, 2010 Leave a comment

Reference minute 5:45: Bush telling lies about Al Gore’s record.

Republicans love to give tax cuts to the superwealthy.

While Al Gore actually did help balance the National Budget and create a surplus, George W. Bush talks out his a$$ in a prelude to him stealing an election (with help from Fox News calling him the winner before any other TV program and the Supreme Court stopping the recount in Florida)…and then Bush did give approximately $1 Trillion of taxpayer money away to the wealthiest Americans, while cutting spending for Education and Health Care, and even Veterans’ Health Care benefits.

Vote NO on Republicans, because Republicans caused the Great Recession.

Reference minute 4:30: Saddam Hussein may be developing “Weapons of Mass Destruction,” Bush says as he demonstrates a textbook example of dogma – assertion without proof.

source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/dogma

Reference minute 3:00: Bush reference’s the “$2.4 Trillion surplus” that President Bill Clinton and his administration created, and then Bush says “You bet we’re going to take $1 Trillion of your own money and let you invest it under safe guidelines, so you get a better rate of return on the money than the paltry 2 percent that the federal government gets for you today.”

Wow! I’d take 2 percent all day every day on my Social Security benefits. Sheeet! We would have lost money on Bush’s scheme to invest Social Security benefits in the stock market. Oh man, we dodged a bullet on that one. Of course, he did cheat us out of Trillions of dollars once he did get into office ($1 Trillion for the Iraq War, $1 Trillion for the Bush Tax Cuts to the superwealthy, $700 billion for the Wall Street bailout of 2008). Republicans are not smart about money. Republicans are the opposite of smart about money. Reference: the Lost Decade, 2000-2010: also known as George W. Bush, a play in 3 Acts: Iraq, Subprime, and the Great Recession.

“In his day Kosciuszko was an international force, coming to America at the outset of the Revolution and serving as an engineer in the Continental Army. Around the end of the war he was promoted to brigadier general and granted American citizenship. Making his way back to Poland, he became a national hero by leading an unsuccessful uprising against Russian occupiers. Kosciuszko’s first mission in the young American army was to help fortify Philadelphia, and he returned there near the turn of the 19th century, living in a three-story town house in the Society Hill neighborhood.”

Bad McDonald’s: In America, your boss can not tell you how to vote with a threat of lost wages…that’s illegal

October 30, 2010 Leave a comment

The “Vote Republican” letter was on McDonald’s company letterhead, and the letter was included in the same envelope with the employees’ paychecks.

That’s management-level intimidation aimed at subordinate workers. Intimidation from employer to employee should not be part of the Democratic process.

EXCERPTS:

“When workers in a McDonald’s restaurant in Canton, Ohio, opened their paychecks this month, they found a pamphlet urging them to vote for the Republican candidates for governor, Senate and Congress, or possibly face financial repercussions.

The pamphlet appeared calculated to intimidate workers into voting for Republican candidates by making a direct reference to their wages and benefits, said Allen Schulman, a Democrat who is president of the Canton City Council and said he obtained a copy of the pamphlet on Wednesday.

The pamphlet said: ‘If the right people are elected, we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above the current levels. If others are elected, we will not.’

It then named three Republican candidates after stating, ‘The following candidates are the ones we believe will help our business move forward.’

The store’s owner, Paul Siegfried, did not return a call for comment, but a spokesman for McDonald’s USA, the parent company, said: ‘It was an unfortunately lapse in judgment on Mr. Siegfried’s part. He’s disappointed with himself.’

The spokesman, Joe Woods, e-mailed a statement on Mr. Siegfried’s behalf. ‘For those that I have offended, I sincerely apologize,’ the statement said.

Mr. Woods said Mr. Siegfried’s action did not represent the policy of McDonald’s.

Mr. Schulman, who is a lawyer, said that distribution of the pamphlet — which was printed on a McDonald’s letterhead — violates a 1953 Ohio statute that prohibits political material from being attached to wage envelopes. He declined to comment on how he got a copy, or who gave it to him, but said it was distributed to employees within the past week.

He said he had forwarded a copy to the authorities in Canton, requesting that they investigate….

The incident also highlighted how fraught politics have become just days before the midterm elections in Ohio, a key battleground state, where incumbent Democrats are struggling for their survival.”

Fact & Evidence: “The civic responsibility to know basic stuff about the economy ultimately falls on citizens”

October 29, 2010 Leave a comment
EXCERPTS:
“According to a new Bloomberg poll, six in ten Americans think most of the money spent to rescue banks will be lost forever. Six in ten think the economy shrunk over the past year. One in two think federal income taxes have gone up in the past two years.

Wrong. Wrong. And wrong….

Here’s a simple culprit: us. The civic responsibility to know basic stuff about the economy ultimately falls on citizens.”

Vote YES on Democrats…because Democrats are good for American Business

October 29, 2010 Leave a comment
EXCERPT:
“A couple of bottom-line facts suggest that big business has flourished under Obama, especially considering the financial swoon that was underway when he took office. On the day Obama was sworn in, for example, the S&P 500 stock index opened at a miserable 849. It’s now around 1180. That’s nearly a 40 percent surge in less than two years.

Corporate profits have risen for six straight quarters and hit $1.6 trillion in the second quarter of 2010, the most recent reporting period. That’s 60 percent higher than in the 4th quarter of 2008, before Obama took office. Corporations are sitting on a record $1 trillion in cash, which they’ve been able to raise on account of improved business conditions, low interest rates, a credit sector that’s been revived entirely through government intervention, and bailed-out banks that are once again happy to lend to their corporate customers.

If this is anti-business behavior, corporate America would welcome a lot more of it.”

Vote NO on Republicans!

October 29, 2010 Leave a comment
Vote NO on Republicans…because Republicans eat the Middle Class for breakfast.

For real, Republicans enjoy the taste of human flesh with an annual income less than $200,000 per year. Maybe they’ll add a little salt and pepper to taste.

There are a lot of different ways to cannibalize the workers of America:
strip away Health Care
strip away Social Security
strip away Unemployment Insurance benefits
strip away college loan money
strip away consumer protection
strip away Wall Street regulation
strip away the Environmental Protection Agency
coddle the Oil companies by letting them pollute all they want
start false wars, like in Iraq, that cost hundreds of billions of dollars and killed tens of thousands of innocent civilians
give Tax Cuts to the superwealthy millionaires and billionaires, which will take over $700 billion from our country’s revenue in the middle of the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression in the 1930s (that sounds like Upper Class Welfare to me).

Vote NO on Republicans…because they caused the Great Recession.

Vote NO on Republicans…because they plan on eating you for breakfast.
