The Importance of Being Cameron

So wrong…I just saw Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on Comedy Central with this scene taken out.

* Go to minute 1:25 of the video below to see where the Comedy Central TV version ended. Starting at minute 1:26, take notice of the soul-searching depth of staring into a painting and how it represents the conflict within the character of Cameron. Without this part of the scene, Comedy Central altered the entire intention of John Hughes’ direction. Paintings are not just decorations on walls. Art at its most potent capacity renders, through someone else’s perspective, a glimpse into our own lives. We recognize the other as ourselves. We see through their eyes, and perhaps have a moment of self-awakening. That’s what John Hughes wanted to get across in that scene, and Comedy Central omitted the most important part.
