Argentina con Messi

* Lionel Messi’s presence, always dangerous for a goal scoring bonanza, opens up the field for the rest of the players. He creates opportunities for others, like his control and delivery of the ball for all 3 goals in Gonzalo Higuaín’s hat-trick against South Korea. Messi is integral to Argentina’s success even if he doesn’t score.

Ooohhh! That shot Messi had that rattled the upright today against Greece, it took my breath away. Argentina’s got the whole mix going right now. Midfielder Juan Verón showed off his long-distance aim and technical flair, too. Bravo to the goal scorers,  Martin Demichellis (defender) and Martin Palermo (substitute in second half), who both scored late in the second half of the game. When a team’s defense and one of its substitutes score, while Coach Diego Maradona rests his strikers Higuaín and Carlos Tévez, then something really good is brewing.

(Let us not forget Argentina’s first goal scorer, defender Gabriel Heinze, who headed in the winner against Nigeria and also rested on the bench today.)

I can’t wait to see what happens when Argentina plays Mexico on Sunday.
